Dr Nicholas - Food Webs and Food Chains

Last week, Dr Nicholas came and she talked about food chains and food webs. A food web is when a plant is eaten by an animal and the animal is eaten by a few different animals. A food chain is when a plant is eaten by an animal and the animal may be eaten by a human. Then Dr Nicholas said that we were going to make a food web and to help us make it, she gave us animal sweets. It was really yummy!!!

When we finished making it we all said THANK YOU! We had such a fun day that I hope Dr Nicholas comes again. Dr Nicholas is a genius at plants.
Keep it up Dr Nicholas!

Last week, on Monday, we went to David Lloyd Leisure Centre. David Lloyd is mainly a tennis centre but you can swim there and exercise. Like last year, we went there to do tennis. Our coach for the afternoon was Mihaly.
For half of the afternoon we were learning how to do a rally. A rally is when two tennis players hit the ball to each other and it doesn't go past them. Also we were learning to do a rally with a forehand. Did you know that a forehand is when you use your strong hand to hold the tennis racquet and swing the racquet and hit the ball? My partner was Zihana and she was very good.
For the other half, we played a match using backhand and forehand. A backhand is when someone hits the ball on the side your weak hand is and you swing the racquet on the other side and put your weak hand on the racquet and hit.

All in all, I had a great time and learnt new skills. I am definitely better at tennis now!

Roman Day in Year 4 - My Mosaic of a Horse

Hello, I 'm Alyssia ! On Friday the 21st of November 2014, Year 4 got to dress up as Romans because it was Roman day! We spent most of the day doing mosaics. Most of the class did a Roman shield. However, I was the ONLY one to do a horse! First, I drew the body of my horse on the centre of the page. I took a mosaic to measure the length of the hooves and legs. Next, I drew the mane and tail. I chose the most sensible colours for a Roman horse. Finally, I stuck down the mosaics. When I went to see Miss Duddy I presumed I was done. However, she said, 'Why don't  you put in a background!' Just then I realised it was missing a background, so I used blue for the sky and green for the grass. You may have seen that I have used dark red in the middle of my horse's back. I used it because it is a Roman saddle. Miss Duddy was proud of me. My family was proud. Everyone was proud.

We weren't able to take a photograph, but here is a photo of the A team with our talented captain on the left in the front row.

Art printing

In art we are starting a new project! It is learning how to print not paint! First we got a cube with a hole in the bottom. Miss Butcher came and put a tray of red paint on our tables. Ms Le Flohic showed us how to do a linear print. We put one side of our cube in the paint and stamped it on our piece of paper then next to it we put  another one. We continued this pattern until we had completed three lines. Miss Butcher and Miss Gard came round and put a bit of yellow in our tray to make it orange. Ms Le Flohic showed us the brick print. It is called brick because if you image a brick wall it, it looks
Different printing
like that!  Again , Miss Butcher, Miss Gard and Ms Le Flohic came and put more yellow in our trays to make it a bit like yellow but not completely. This print was quite hard, it was called the half drop. First you put one brick down on the paper then you do the next one half way down the first brick. Then you go back up so it’s in line with the first one you did! The very last one we did was random. We just had to put the bricks anywhere one the paper, trying not to make a pattern. All in all, the day was really fun and I enjoyed it!

I love art with Ms Le Flohic!!!

Yesterday our class had art with the best art teacher ever, Ms Le Flohic. We were finishing off our 3D sculpture of an animal! I did a panther! Her name is Polly! We used a  500ml bottle for the body. It was great fun and I really enjoyed it! We are doing more art today and tomorrow!

Keep it up Ms Le Flohic!!!

French Friday!

Bonjour! Last Friday it was French Friday. We do this every week to learn some French! We do the basics first then it gets harder. In future I will learn to say " I have 1 sister and no brothers." I already know how to say hello, how are you? I'm fine, I'm not fine, what is your name? and my name is...
Last week we had croissants. (They were really yummy!). We also used the school ipads so if we don't know a word it will say it for you!

Roman play - workshop

The Roman Play was great! First the company did a play and every now and then some children came up to be someone in the play.
Next, they taught us some acting and stages of emotion. The four stages of emotion were scarecrow, Sunday afternoon, decide and go and white fear. In the afternoon we performed our own Roman plays! It was the best day ever!!!

“I promise to do my best to make this school a place that everybody loves and is happy to come to every day. I will do my best to listen, to share everybody’s ideas at the meeting and keep them informed of the outcomes. Together we will do our best for Jesus.”

Katie and Luke are the head boy and head girl and they are both in Y6.
